The Toad River ( English for " toad is -flow") is a 180 km long right tributary of the Liard River in the northeast of the Canadian province of British Columbia .
The Toad River was named after the countless large toads that were seen by fur traders on its banks at the beginning of the 19th century. John McLeod of the Hudson's Bay Company traveled up the river in 1831 and described the toads found.
The indigenous people called the river "Tsal-eh-chesi".
