Tobias Bong (born March 23, 1988 in Cologne ) is a German canoeist .

Life

Bong started in 1998 in the WSF 31 Cologne with the canoe slalom and started from 2003 to 2015 in white water racing for the RKC Cologne . From 2016 Bong starts for the KSK team Cologne, for which u. a. five-time world champion Markus Gickler also drives.

In 2005, Bong qualified for the national team in a single kayak . In 2008 he became German champion in the classic race in Sterzing and vice world champion in the team classic race in Ivrea for the first time . In 2009 Bong became European champion in the Team Classic race in Sondrio . Bong celebrated his greatest success in 2012 when he became world champion in the individual classic race and runner-up in the sprint in La Plagne .

After switching to Olympic canoe racing in 2013, where he became German runner-up in the 1000 m and 5000 m in the same year, he concentrated entirely on white water racing again from 2014.

In 2014 he defended his world title in Sondrio . In 2015 he became vice European champion on the classic course in Banja-Luka. In addition, he won the classic team at the European Championships in 2015 together with Andreas Heilinger and Björn Beerschwenger.

In 2016 Bong became vice world champion and with the same team as 2015 team world champion over the classic distance.

Bong lives in Frechen near Cologne , is married and ended his active career after the 2016 season.
