Toivo Tasa

Toivo Tasa (born December 21, 1951 in Tallinn ) is an Estonian translator , literary scholar and diplomat . He has been the Estonian ambassador to Japan since 2010 .

Life and diplomacy

Toivo Tasa graduated in 1976 with a degree in Estonian philology at the State University of Tartu from.

From 1990 to 1994 he was the editor-in-chief of the parallel Estonian cultural magazines Vikerkaar (Estonian-speaking) and Raduga (Радуга, Russian-speaking). Tasa was also general secretary of the Estonian cultural institute Eesti Instituut, founded in 1989 .

When the Republic of Estonia regained its independence, Tasa entered the diplomatic service of his country. He was initially employed in the political department of the Estonian Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

From 1995 to 1999 Tasa was the Estonian embassy in Vienna (with responsibilities for Austria, the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Hungary, Slovenia and Switzerland). From 1999 to 2001 he was chief of protocol at the Estonian Foreign Ministry in Tallinn. From 2001 to 2006 Tasa was the Estonian ambassador in Budapest (responsible for Hungary and from 2003 for Croatia).

From 2006 to 2008 Tasa worked as an advisor to the Estonian Parliamentary President and then as an employee in the political department of the Estonian Foreign Ministry.

Toivo Tasa has been the Estonian ambassador to Tokyo since October 2010 . In addition to Japan, he has also been double-accredited in South Korea since 2013 .
