Toktogul (Kyrgyz: Токтогул, Russian: Токтогул) is a city and the administrative seat of Toktogul Rajon in the Kyrgyz region of Jalalabat . The city had a population of 16,429 according to the 2009 census.

location

The city is located on the Toktogul Dam , the largest of its kind in Kyrgyzstan and all of Central Asia . Toktogul is also located in the north of the Kyrgyz administrative region Jalalabat, southwest of the Kyrgyz capital Bishkek .

Surname

The city is named after the most famous son of the city, the singer Toktogul Satilganov , as is the nearby dam and lake .
