Tolomeo da Lucca , actually Bartolomeo Fiadoni (* 1236 in Lucca , † 1327 in Torcello ), also known as Ptolomäus von Lucca, was a Catholic theologian, author of ecclesiastical pamphlets and bishop .

Life

The Italian Dominican was a student of Thomas Aquinas and created historical and ecclesiastical writings. Between 1288 and 1308 he was prior of the convent of San Romano in Lucca several times , and in 1301 he was prior of Santa Maria Novella in Florence . He was in close relationship with Thomas Aquinas, at whose canonization in Avignon in 1323 he was present. 1318 he was by Pope John XXII. appointed Bishop of Torcello .

He came into conflict with the Patriarchate of Grado because of the appointment of an abbess of St. Anthony in Torcello , which led to his excommunication in 1321 and forced him into exile. In 1323 the excommunication was lifted by the Pope and he returned to his chair, which he held until his death.
