Marcelo Tomás Barrios Vera (born December 10, 1997 in Santiago de Chile ) is a Chilean tennis player .

Career

Barrios Vera started playing tennis at the age of three and was already quite successful as a junior. In 2015 he played in three of four Grand Slam tournaments. He managed to get into the quarterfinals at the French Open , which he lost to Taylor Fritz . At the Wimbledon Championships he made it to the round of 16, while he was eliminated in the first round at the US Open . His best placement in the junior world rankings was a combined 5th place.

Barrios Vera played his first games on the professional tour at the age of 15. He mainly plays tournaments on the ITF Future Tour and the ATP Challenger Tour . So far, he has won four singles and three doubles on the Future Tour. His first success on the Challenger Tour was winning the double title in Santiago de Chile in 2017 . Together with his compatriot Nicolás Jarry , he received a wildcard and played his way to the final. There they met the top seeded duo Máximo González and Andrés Molteni , against whom they prevailed in two sets. In singles his best result is a 387th place, in doubles a 380th place.

In 2017 Barrios Vera made his debut for the Chilean Davis Cup team . In the game against the Dominican Republic , he won the third, already insignificant individual against José Olivares .
