Tom Burlinson (born February 14, 1956 in Toronto , Canada ) is an Australian actor and singer .

Life

Tom Burlinson was born the son of English immigrants. His parents Anthony T. Burlinson (* 1923) and Angela Schofield (* 1927) came to Canada after the Second World War . The family moved several times: first to the USA in 1958 , back to England in 1962 and finally to Australia in 1965 . The parents divorced shortly thereafter, and Tom stayed in Australia with his father and older sister Susan, while his mother returned to England with two younger sisters. Tom's father wanted to turn him into a lawyer, but Tom decided to go into acting. In 1974 he was accepted into the National Institute of Dramatic Art , where he graduated in 1976.

Career

After minor appearances in the theater and on Australian television from 1977, Tom Burlinson received a permanent role in the Australian soap opera The Restless Years in 1979 , where he stayed for 16 months. He got his first leading role in a movie in 1982 in George Trumbull Miller's feature film Snowy River , followed in 1983 by Phar Lap - Legend of a Nation by Simon Wincer . These two films brought him the breakthrough in his film career, even if Tom struggled afterwards against the image that he was only good in roles with horses.

Tom Burlinson became known as a singer when he took over the singing voice for the young Frank Sinatra in the 1991 miniseries Sinatra . He then shifted his focus from film acting to appearing in musicals. In 1998 he created his own music show, Frank, The Sinatra Story in Song (renamed Frank - A Life in Song in 2001 for legal reasons ), with which he went on tour in Australia until 2003. In 2002 he performed with it in Canada.

In the film The Night We Called It a Day by Paul Goldman , Tom Burlinson took over the singing voice of Frank Sinatra, played by Dennis Hopper , again in 2003 . In 2004 he returned to the stage as Leo Bloom in Mel Brooks ' musical The Producers . In 2006 Tom Burlinson created Frank-More from a Life in Song, a follow-up show for A Life In Song , which he later performed in a revised form under the title The Best of Frank . In 2010 he created a new music show called Now Were Swingin '! who was no longer fixated only on Frank Sinatra, but u. a. also presented songs by Nat King Cole , Dean Martin , Tony Bennett , Sammy Davis, Jr. and Bobby Darin .

From 2007 to 2009 Tom Burlinson was a jury member on Australia's Got Talent casting show . In 2011 he returned to the cinema in the feature film The Cup by director Simon Wincer .
