Reviews

prisma-online : “One of the darkest (possibly also the most realistic) films about the end of the Middle Ages: there is murder, rape, looted and pillaged. Not only the century, but also the characters are very dark, especially Rutger Hauer. All in all, this is a very excellent action spectacle that was a bit underestimated at the time. The full version is even better! "

The lexicon of international films judged the film to be "a bloodthirsty" sex and crime "spectacle that presents the accumulation of brutalities as naturalistic illustrations of the dark Middle Ages."

Awards

The film was nominated for the 1986 International Fantasy Film Award in the Best Picture category. In 1985 Flesh and Blood won two Golden Calves at the Nederlands Film Festival in the categories of Best Director and Best Film .

background

The film was a financial failure, with a budget of roughly $ 6.5 million against a box office gross of $ 100,000.
