Tom Compernolle (born November 13, 1975 in Bruges , † June 16, 2008 in Aartrijke ) was a Belgian athlete .

Tom Compernolle was a long-distance and cross-country runner . Between 1998 and 2005 he took part eight times in the respective world or European championships of the year in cross-country running. The Flame achieved his best result at an EM in 2003 in Edinburgh as 15th, at a World Cup in Brussels his best result was 31st. He also ran the 5000-meter Olympic course. Here is his biggest success was the participation in the 2004 Summer Olympics from Athens , where he took 14th place in his semifinal run. At the European Championships in Munich in 2002 he was on the track 13th, in 2006 in Gothenburg tenth. In 2001, 2002 and 2004 Compernolle became Belgian champion over 5000 meters, in 2004 he also won the title of Flemish champion over this distance and became Belgian cross-country champion.

Compernolle, nicknamed TC Swoosh , started for AS Rieme and was trained by André Ornelis and Kristof Haverbeke. Since October 2007 the Torhouter worked for the Belgian armed forces . On June 16, 2008, he died while driving a military vehicle in West Flanders after an accident on site. He left behind his partner and a seven-year-old son.
