Tom Dennis (* 1881 ; † around 1939 ) was an English billiards player who was successful in both snooker and English billiards .

Career

Dennis took part in the newly established World Snooker Championship from 1927 to 1933 and was able to reach the finals four times ( 1927 , 1929 , 1930 and 1931 ), but had to admit defeat to Joe Davis each time .

His closest result came in his last final, which was played in the back room of his own pub in Nottingham . Despite leading 14:10 and 19:16 at the beginning, he finally lost 21:25 to Davis, who secured his fifth title in a row.

He took part in the two following World Championships, but did not make it to the final and then said goodbye to this tournament in 1933.
