Tom Mintier

Tom Mintier (born December 1, 1947 in Mount Vernon , United States , † September 18, 2016 in Thailand ) was an American reporter and journalist .

Mintier became known worldwide when he was the only reporter worldwide to comment live on the explosion of the US space shuttle Challenger on January 28, 1986 for the news channel CNN .

Career

He made his first experience in 1972 at WBNSTV in Ohio as a cameraman. He went to the University of Louisville , where he graduated in Journalism in 1981 . Between 1981 and 2004 he worked for CNN. He then moved to Thai News Network (TNN). Since July 1, 2008, he has been with The Amata Times .

As a reporter he was live on site at many events, including a. In 1989 during the Tian'anmen massacre in Beijing, in November 1989 at the Brandenburg Gate when the Wall fell , when US troops marched into Panama and in the United States Central Command near Doha , Qatar during the 2003 Iraq war . He was also office manager in London and Bangkok .

Mintier received an Emmy for his reporting on the Tiananmen Square Massacre and the assassination at the 1996 Olympics in Atlanta .
