Tom Thieme
Tom Thieme (* 1978 in Karl-Marx-Stadt ) is a German political scientist and extremism researcher .
Life
From 1998 to 2004 Thieme studied political science , sociology and social and economic geography at the Technical University of Chemnitz . In 2007 he was a scholarship from the Hanns Seidel Foundation (stations in Chemnitz, Moscow and Berlin) with the dissertation Party Political extremism in Eastern Europe to Dr. phil. PhD.
He then worked as a research assistant at the Chemnitz Chair of Political Systems, Political Institutions of the extremism researcher Eckhard Jesse . From 2007 to 2011 he was also the editorial assistant for the yearbook Extremism & Democracy . In 2010 he became a lecturer at the TU Dresden and the Jan Evangelista Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem . In 2013 he completed his habilitation as a scholarship holder of the Federal Foundation for the Processing of the SED Dictatorship in Political Science with the work System Change in the GDR and in East Central Europe. He then became a private lecturer at the Chair of Political Systems, Political Institutions at the TU Chemnitz , which he has been acting as head of the department since 2014. Thieme has been Professor of Sociopolitical Education at the Saxon Police College since October 2017 .
His main research interests are comparative political science (democracy and dictatorship) as well as party , Eastern Europe and extremism research. He published several works, book chapters and journal articles.
Thieme is u. a. Member of the German Society for Eastern European Studies , the German Society for Political Science and the Society for Research on Germany as well as in the awarding committee for the Germany Scholarship .
