Tom Tyler (actor)
Tom Tyler , actually Vincent Markowski (born August 9, 1903 in Port Henry , New York , USA, † May 1, 1954 in Hamtramck , Michigan ) was an American actor in silent and sound films.
Life
Tyler was born Vincent Markowski into an American-Polish family. Tyler had a long film career, from silent movies in the 1920s to the 1950s. In the 1920s he was a major western actor on FBO . He starred in a large number of films, including westerns such as John Ford's Ringo ( Stagecoach ) and The Devil's Captain . Most of his films were B-movies , for which he received only modest salaries. Only his great athleticism helped the athlete Tyler from time to time to roles in larger studios, for which his robustness was the decisive factor and not his acting skills. He played, for example, the mummy in the hand of the Mummy ( The Mummy's Hand ) or the title character in the first film adaptation of a superhero comics, the movie The Amazing Adventures of Captain Marvel ( The Adventures of Captain Marvel ).
Another role worth mentioning was his role in The Phantom , which he achieved great success thanks to his excellent body language and characterization of this role. Ten years after this, his last major film role, Columbia Pictures tried to win him over for a sequel to the film, which was prevented by his death in 1954. The film appeared, rewritten for the adventures of Captain Africa ( The Adventures of Captain Africa ), then with John Hart in the lead role.
