Tomasz Pietrasiewicz
Tomasz Pietrasiewicz (born August 21, 1955 in Siedlce ) is a Polish theater director and director of a Jewish museum.
Life
Tomasz Pietrasiewicz grew up in Lublin and studied at the Maria Curie Skłodowska University . In communist Poland he had belonged to an opposition group since 1976 and worked as a printer for samizdat . He joined the theater group "Chwilowa" and was later also an actor in the House of Culture, in the Lublin Studio Theater and in the Lublin Cultural Center. In 1989 he joined the opposition movement Solidarność .
Pietrasiewicz joined the Teatr NN theater group in 1992 . Since 1998 he has directed the Brama Grodzka - Teatr NN theater . The theater and cultural center was founded in 1990 and is located in a gate building that connected the city with the Lublin ghetto .
Pietrasiewicz created a museum in the building about the history of Lublin's Jews during the Holocaust . Pietrasiewicz and his helpers collected reports, interviews, photographs, letters and other mementos from 1,600 survivors and contemporary witnesses. The collection began to compile documents on the 1,500 houses in Lublin inhabited by Jews, the majority of which had disappeared due to renovation measures by the municipality; by 2015, 900 files had been created. The museum intends to compile information on all 43,000 Lublin Jews from 1939. In 2008 the center received 70 color photos from the Lublin ghetto from the German Historical Museum , which were taken by Wehrmacht soldier Max Kirnberger in 1940/41. During the research work, the collection also received photographs of the child Henio Zytomirski , who then became a personification of the fate of the Jews killed in the extermination camps on Facebook .
Pietrasiewicz was appointed officer of the Order of Polonia Restituta in 2008. In 2015 he was honored by the Museum of the History of Polish Jews .
