Olaf Berschuk

Olaf Berschuk (born August 16, 1963 ) is a former German football player who was active in the 1980s for FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt in the GDR Oberliga , the top division of GDR football . Within seven seasons he played 97 league games (1 goal). Berschuk is a multiple junior and junior national player of the GDR.

Athletic career

In 1977 Olaf Berschuk's career began in the youth team at FC Rot-Weiß Erfurt. In 1981 and 1982 he was a member of the GDR junior national team , for which he played twelve international matches and scored one goal. The FC Rot-Weiß took him on in 1981 in the youth team, with which he played in the junior league.

In the league team of FC Rot-Weiß Berschuk came on the penultimate match day of the 1981/82 season when he represented the regular full-back Carsten Sänger in the encounter between Rot-Weiß Erfurt and FSV Zwickau (5-2) . Although he was officially registered for the league for the 1982/83 season, he continued to play exclusively in the junior league this season. In 1983/84, the 1.84 m tall trained mechanic finally made the leap into the league team, with which he played 18 of the 26 point games and was used as a full-back in the second half of the season. Most of the games in the major league graduated Berschuk in the 1984/85 season, in which he missed only one game. He played almost continuously as a pre-stopper . In 1984 and 1985 he was a member of the GDR junior national team . He was used in ten international matches and scored a goal like in the junior selection. In the four league seasons up to 1989 Berschuk played with varying success, only in 1987/88 he was with 21 appearances in the inner circle of the regular team. In his last league season in 1988/89, he was only used six times, but scored his only league goal on matchday 10 in the game Rot-Weiß Erfurt - Wismut Aue (2-0).

For the 1989/90 season, Berschuk joined the second-rate GDR league team from Robotron Sömmerda , where other former red and white players were already playing alongside Uwe Becker , Martin Busse and Josef Vlay . In this last season of the GDR league, he completed all 34 point games and was then taken over into the squad of the successor club FSV Sömmerda . This played in 1990/91 in the Northeast League, the second division of the newly founded Northeast German Football Association (NOFV) . Berschuk played 26 of the 30 point games and scored two goals. After the reorganization of the DFB league system , Sömmerda was incorporated into the third- tier Oberliga Nordost in 1991/90 , from which the team relegated to fourth tier a year later. Sömmerda and Olaf Berschuk did not return to higher-class football.

After the end of his career as a football player, Berschuk worked as a football coach for several lower-class clubs, mainly in north-west Germany. B. at TuS Esens , active.
