Carsten Sänger (born November 8, 1962 in Kerspleben ; also Karsten Sänger ) is a German football coach and former football player.

Athletic career

Club career

The defensive player singer went through the youth teams of Rot-Weiß Erfurt from 1971 and in 1980, at the age of 17, joined the Erfurt Oberliga squad, which reached the final of the FDGB Cup in the same season and was defeated there against FC Carl Zeiss Jena . Until the German reunification , as a result of which Erfurt reached the UEFA Cup 1991/92 as third in the table in the 1990/91 season , but was only integrated into the 2nd Bundesliga , Singer played 225 games in the top East German division, in which he played four Goals. Singer had attracted attention within GDR football through an alleged doping case when, in August 1990, he was initially unable to provide a sufficient amount of a urine sample he had requested and instead referee Thomas Eßbach provided him with a corresponding sample. However, since Eßbach had taken pain relievers for his back pain, the urine sample tested positive and the singer was accused of doping. In the trial before the DFV Sports Court in September 1990, Eßbach admitted the unauthorized assistance and was banned until November 30, 1990, Singer received a five-game ban and a fine.

In the 1991/92 second division season , singer then played four appearances in European competition and another 32 appearances in league operations for the Erfurt team, who were relegated to the now third-class NOFV league.

For the 1992/93 season , Singer then moved to Bundesliga relegated FC Hansa Rostock , for whom he played 73 second division games within two seasons. Singer then moved to the regional division FC Sachsen Leipzig , which he left again in 28 missions (one goal) in the 1994/95 season and joined the second division club, FC Carl Zeiss Jena . After 64 second division appearances for Jena (where he scored a goal) returned Singer 1997 FC Sachsen Leipzig back, completed this 17 appearances in the regional and has since been player-coach of Leipzig. In the following season, singer went back to FC Carl Zeiss, who had meanwhile been relegated from the 2nd Bundesliga to the regional league. After another 28 games for Jena, Sänger left the club again and joined his former club Rot-Weiß Erfurt. After eight games for Erfurt in the Regionalliga, singer suffered a serious accident on September 18, 1999 on the way home after returning from a game in Zwickau and lost a leg, which ended his active career.

Selection bets

From 1979 to 1981, Sänger belonged to the squad of the GDR junior national team , for which he played 24 international matches. He was then included in the junior team , in which he was also called up in 24 international matches until 1983. In 1983/84, singer was used in five international games of the GDR Olympic selection . Singer made his debut in the GDR national team on March 28, 1984 in a 2-1 win against Czechoslovakia in Erfurt . Another 15 national team appearances followed by 1987. In eight of these 16 games, the GDR team trained by Bernd Stange won the day.

Coaching career

Singer took over SSV Erfurt Nord in 2000 and took it to the top league in 2003, now trading as FC Erfurt Nord . His contract was terminated on March 11, 2004. In the 2009/10 season he coached the Thuringian national class club FC Blau-Weiß Dachwig-Döllstädt in the seventh highest league.
