Tomi Pettinen (born June 17, 1977 in Ylöjärvi ) is a former Finnish ice hockey player who was most recently under contract with Lukko Rauma in the SM-liiga .

Career

Tomi Pettinen began his career as an ice hockey player in the youth department of Ilves Tampere , for whose professional team he made his debut in the SM-liiga in the 1996/97 season . First he also began the following season at Ilves Tampere, but left the team after three games and ended them at their league rivals Lukko Rauma . The 1998/99 season began with the defender at HIFK Helsinki . He left the capital club after four pointless games and spent the rest of the season with Hermes Kokkola in the second-rate I divisioona. For Hermes, he scored eight goals and six assists in a total of 45 games. He then returned to Ilves Tampere, for whom he was a regular player in the SM-liiga from 1999 to 2002. During this period he was selected in the NHL Entry Draft 2000 in the ninth round as a total of 267th player by the New York Islanders , for whose farm team Bridgeport Sound Tigers from the American Hockey League he was in the 2001/02 season after the end of the season in Finland nine missions came. In the following two years, the Finn played for Bridgeport Sound in the AHL, while he played a total of six games for the New York Islanders in the National Hockey League .

During the lockout in the NHL Pettinen played in the 2004/05 season in his Finnish homeland for the SM-liiga participant Lukko Rauma . After resumption of play in the NHL, he returned the following season to the New York Islanders and then played another 18 times for them in the NHL, while he continued to work for Bridgeport Sound in the AHL. For the 2006/07 season , the left shooter signed a contract with Frölunda HC from the Swedish Elitserien . After half a year with his new club, he joined the Leksands IF , for which he played during the following one and a half seasons in the second Swedish division, the HockeyAllsvenskan . In the 2007/08 season he had the best plus / minus balance of all the HockeyAllsvenskan players. From the 2008/09 season , the Finnish international played for his ex-club Lukko Rauma in the SM-liiga. In this he was team captain from the 2010/11 season . At the end of the 2011/12 season he ended his active career.

International

For Finland , Pettinen took part in the Euro Hockey Tour in 2010 . He gave two assists in three games.
