The Tomini bristle- tooth doctor fish ( Ctenochaetus tominiensis ) lives in the western central Pacific near Indonesia , the Philippines , New Guinea , the Solomon Islands , the northern Great Barrier Reef , near Palau , Vanuatu , Fiji and Tonga . It lives there as a loner or in small groups in sheltered bays, on reef slopes with strong coral growth at depths of 3 to 25 meters. Little is known about his behavior. Specimens kept in aquariums were aggressive towards other surgeonfish.

Tomini bristle-tooth doctor fish grow to be 16 centimeters long. This makes the species the smallest doctor fish. The caudal fin of the juvenile fish is forked, that of the adult crescent-shaped. It is colored white and turns dark gray when it comes to arguments with conspecifics. The outer zones of the soft radiating parts of the dorsal and anal fin are yellow or orange. At the end of the dorsal and anal fin base there is a small black spot each.
