The bristle- tooth doctor fish ( Ctenochaetus ) are a genus of the doctor fish family . Like all surgeonfish, they have a fold-out thorn for defense at the base of the tail. The fry are often brightly colored, while the adult animals have simple, single-colored drawings.

Bristle-tooth doctor fish have laterally flattened bodies with elongated dorsal and anal fin. As with all surgeon fish species, the mouth is terminal . In contrast to their relatives, they do not feed on leaf and thread algae, but scrape the fine algae coating off stones with their bristle-like teeth.

The bristle-tooth doctor fish are native to the tropical seas of the Indo-Pacific .
