Tommy Noonan

Tommy Noonan (born April 29, 1921 in Bellingham , Washington , † April 24, 1968 in Woodland Hills , Los Angeles ) was an American actor , comedian , screenwriter and director .

Life

Noonan began his acting career in the late 1930s at the side of his half-brother John Ireland in various theaters and in film productions. Through Ireland, he met the entertainer Peter Marshall, with whom he founded the comedian duo Noonan and Marshall in the 1950s . The two successfully appeared in nightclubs, TV shows and films such as Starlift (1951). The duo split in the early 1950s. Both actors were now pursuing their own careers.

Noonan appeared in various A and B movies until the 1960s . He had his greatest successes in 1953 in the supporting role of the lovable millionaire's son Gus Esmond in the hit movie Blondes, preferably at the side of Marilyn Monroe , and in 1954 in the musical A New Star in the Sky . Other roles followed, including in Sensation am Saturday (1955) or in The Big and Small World (1956), but without any notable success.

In the following years he increasingly appeared as a writer and producer of his films. The feature film Promises is worth mentioning ! Promises! starring the movie star Jayne Mansfield . Mansfield stepped naked in front of the camera in a few scenes and caused a scandal, and stills of the film appeared in Playboy . The film received media attention and was quite a success at the box office. For his next film, 3 Nuts in Search of a Bolt , he again relied on the open-hearted commitment of his leading actress, this time the sex bomb Mamie van Doren caused indecency on the big screen. 1967 Noonan had a guest appearance on the hit television show Batman and in Cottonpickin 'Chickenpickers his last film appearance.

From 1947 to 1952 he was married to the actress Lucile Barnes , the couple had two children. After his divorce he married Carole Langley, from this marriage had four children. His half-brother John was married to the western star Joanne Dru whose brother Peter Marshall was. Tommy Noonan died of a brain tumor in 1968.
