Toni-L (born September 11, 1969 in Heidelberg ; real name Toni Landomini ) is a German musician and rapper of Italian descent. Toni-L is a founding member of the rap formation Advanced Chemistry , which was founded in Heidelberg in 1987 and is considered one of the very first German rap groups. He also founded the label MZEE, which had a defining influence on the early days of German hip-hop .

Life

In the 1980s, during his school days in Heidelberg, Toni-L began rapping and breaking with classmates . There he met the later members of Advanced Chemistry . After finishing school he learned the profession of cook, which is why he often speaks of himself as “Toni the cook”. In 1987 Toni-L (of Italian origin ) founded the first German-speaking rap group Advanced Chemistry together with Torch (Haitian origin), linguist (Ghanaian origin), Gee One (Chilean origin) and DJ Mike MD (German origin). Due to its multiethnic composition, the group very often addresses the problems of migrants in Germany - in the early 1990s there were politically explosive and media-effective songs such as “ Fremd im Eigenen Land ”, “Which Path Leads to History” and “Operation Article 3 ".

In 1992 Toni-L founded the music label MZEE together with others , which in the coming years developed into one of the most well-known German rap labels. Soon after, however, he separated from MZEE and in 1995 co-founded a new label called 360 ° Records in order to release Advanced Chemistry's only self-titled long player on this label. In 1997 his solo album Der Pate was released , also on 360 ° Records . In 1998 Toni-L founded the European formation La Connessione together with the Belgian Souterrain Squade and the Italian Gente Guasta , which only published European Attack . After a four-year break and some feature parts, for example on Torch's Blauer Samt LP, Toni-L released his second solo album “ Der Funkjoker ” in 2002 (released on 360 ° Records). Finally, in 2005 he worked with the Brothers Keepers (including D-Flame, Denyo, Torch, Bantu, Xavier Naidoo, Chima, Tyron, Ono, Germ, Ebony Prince, and Afrob) on the maxi single Ready . In 2005 the track “Der Zug rollst” with the Swiss DJ Def Cut and “Do you know who?” With a flower pot and Black Tiger appear on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of 360 ° Records.

In 2007 the album "Funkanimal" was released, which was produced together with the funk band Safarisounds . This album was recorded live with the band in a session in the studio and contains new tracks as well as new recordings of some Toni-L and Advanced Chemistry songs.

Toni-L is a trained chef and does this job in a Heidelberg restaurant.

On January 30th, 2020 Toni-L handed over 5000 archives from the holdings of Advanced Chemistry to the Heidelberg City Archives in the presence of the press .
