Toni Marcus

Talia Antoinette "Toni" Marcus (* approx. 1950 ) is an American violinist and violist .

Marcus appeared in public as a violinist at the age of 10 and was presented as a child prodigy in 1962 on Jack Benny's show at the age of twelve . She first played with La Monte Young and studied with Ali Akbar Khan and Pran Nath . In the early 1970s she performed with Grachan Moncur III ( Echoes Of Prayer ), Gunter Hampel ( NDR Jazzworkshop 1973) and Carla Bley ( Tropic Appetites ). Then she played in several Italian bands. In the late 1970s she was a member of Van Morrison's band ( Into the Music , Philosopher's Stone ); in the early 1980s she recorded with Michel Vlatkovich and engaged in meditation music . Between 1972 and 1981 she was involved in six albums in the field of jazz. In the film Corrina, Corrina (1994) she appeared as a violin teacher. In the field of folk music she has performed with Jamie St Clair and with David Locke. She also wrote film music ( Summerspell , 1983).

Currently (2013) she is active as a violin and improvisation teacher.

She was artist in residence at the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art , the Guggenheim Museum and the Scola Sperimental in Rome.
