Toni Thoms

Toni Thoms (born January 14, 1881 as Anton Thoms in Munich ; † November 13, 1941 ibid) was a German composer , singer , musician and theater director .

Life and work

Anton 'Toni' Thoms began his artistic training in his hometown of Munich before the turn of the century; his teachers were Josef Werner and Josef Rheinberger . He then worked as a violin cellist at the Munich court orchestra and performed as a tenor buffo. Obligations led him to a. to Freiburg im Breisgau , Erfurt , Colmar , Zurich , Augsburg and Nuremberg . In 1917/18 he was involved in the management of the local city ​​theater in Regensburg .

Finally, Thoms turned to composing and wrote a. a. Operettas (Die Frau von Korosin, Der Dorf-Caruso), an opera and a series of soldiers' songs.

In 1932 he began working as a film composer. Thoms wrote melodies and background music for a range of folk and älpische subjects with comedy character - initially mainly for the productions of Franz Seitz senior , at last only for Joe Stöckel . Early on (1933/34) he allowed himself to be engaged by the National Socialist rulers for tendentious projects (composition for SA Mann Brand , role in Um das Menschenrecht) .

Thoms died in the middle of the composition for the white and blue swank The Bartered Grandfather; his work was completed by his colleague Hans Diernhammer.
