TopSolid is an integrated three-dimensional (3D) - CAD / CAM - software from the French software house TOPSOLID SAS. It is based on the Parasolid -Modellierkern and serves construction and production of geometries , components and assemblies in the mechanical manufacturing industry , the sheet metal - and woodworking .
The system consists of different modules for construction and production that use the same user interface and the same associative database, thus avoiding duplication during the project phase. As the only system in the industry, the offer includes an integrated PDM and ERP solution. The latter is mainly sold in France.
Distribution and areas of application
With a market share of around 4%, TopSolid ranks ninth among the CAD / CAM providers worldwide. In the metropolitan France, the software ranks second. It is used in particular in companies that are active in the automotive industry , aviation , mechanical engineering , plant construction , steel construction or medical technology . The industry-specific solution for the wood industry is primarily used by shopfitters, carpenters , ship and vehicle interior decorators .
history
In 1980 the mechanical engineering company Missler Mécanique starts software development together with the Italian company Olivetti, initially only for in-house requirements . The increasing demand for computer solutions for mechanical engineering leads to the founding of the sister company Missler Informatique in 1984 , in which the GTL3 solution is further developed and sold. In 1988 Suf3D is presented, a software solution with a surface modeler especially for mold makers. After the first GPS management software was introduced in 1990, the Missler Informatique team joined forces with Topcad, publisher of the TopSolid 3D CAD system based in Toulouse , and with Catalpa from Grenoble , who specialized in software solutions for the sheet metal working industry. The step towards an integrated solution for the complete range of the mechanical manufacturing industry was taken. This development direction was finally determined in 1994 with the integration of the Parasolid modeling kernel. In 2001 , the various corporate units finally merged and the product family was consolidated under the name TopSolid. In the same year, the development of the industry solution for the wood industry started , three years later the Product Data Manager (PDM) module was presented.
