The Topographical Lexicon of the Kingdom of Bavaria is a directory compiled by JC Ursprung and published in 1863. The full title reads "Topographical Lexicon of the Kingdom of Bavaria, divided into all eight administrative districts plus an appended register, containing the cities, villages, hamlets and wastelands occurring therein."

Work description

The work was initiated by the administrative reform of the Kingdom of Bavaria , which came into force on July 1, 1862. This separated the administration and the judiciary. The district offices were newly introduced for the administration .

The work consists of a list of the district, state and city courts included in the Kingdom of Bavaria , as well as the district offices (pp. 1–28) and the eight administrative districts , each with alphabetical lists of places (pp. 28–585). With its own pagination it is followed by an index (pp. 1–83), an addendum (pp. 84–86), a correction (pp. 86 and 88) and a list of abbreviations (p. 87).

A comparison with the directory The Kingdom of Bavaria published in 1840 shows that the classification of the types of places ( desert , hamlet , Kirchweiler, Dorf , Kirchdorf , Pfarrdorf , Markt and Stadt ), their spelling and sorting (according to the root word: prefixes such as old, new , Upper, lower, upper, lower are appended to it) without any change. It also shows exactly the same incompleteness in the other places.

The administrative districts are also in the order Upper Bavaria (p. 29–113), Lower Bavaria (p. 113–174), Palatinate (p. 175–208), Upper Palatinate and Regensburg (p. 208–265), Upper Franconia (p. 265) –322), Middle Franconia (pp. 323–388), Lower Franconia and Aschaffenburg (pp. 388–475), Schwaben and Neuburg (pp. 475–585). In the respective alphabetical lists of the places it is only indicated which district office, regional and district court is responsible for the individual place.

The addendum also provides a list of the building authorities, rent offices and forest offices in Bavaria as a whole and the notaries' offices in the Palatinate.

criticism

Since the structure of the Kingdom of Bavaria was taken over unchanged, the same problems arise as there.
