Torchure was a German death-doom band from Uelzen , which was founded in 1985, disbanded in 1988, got back together in the same year before disbanding again around 1994.

history

The band was founded in 1985 by the brothers Thorsten (electric bass) and Andreas Reissdorf (electric guitar). A first demo followed in May 1988 with Signs of Premonition , before the band split up in the same year. Towards the end of the year the band got together again and consisted of the Reissdorf brothers, singer Martin Matzak, guitarist Tomas and drummer Stefan Pickbrenner. In 1990, the second Hellraiser demo, accompanied by a few smaller appearances, was created, followed by another demo called Traces in 1991 . In the spring of 1992, the debut album Beyond the Veil was released . In May and June the band played with Disharmonic Orchestra across Europe . In the summer of the year the group played a few gigs in Germany together with Pestilence . The band also played with Sepultura across Europe. On the night of October 17, 1992, at 4 a.m., a serious accident occurred on Bundesstrasse 71 : driver Andreas Reissdorf fell asleep while driving from a discotheque and crashed into a tree with the car and its four sleeping occupants. Three inmates died, including the Reissdorf brothers. The last works of the brothers could be heard on the compilation Stop War by 1MF Records with the songs Between the Urges and Sinister Seduction . The two remaining members, singer Matzak and drummer Pickbrenner, did not break up the band, however, but instead brought in the guitarists Malte and Mario Staller and the bassist Karol Banaszynski. This was followed by the second album The Essence in autumn 1993. The album was produced by SL Coe , former singer of Scanner . A little later the band broke up.

style

On Beyond the Veil , the band played varied and atmospheric Death Metal mixed with Doom Metal, which was characterized by tempo and rhythm changes and aggressive vocals. On the second album The Essence , the band sounded more aggressive, with the use of a keyboard as well as the guttural vocals as on the first album were characteristic. In songs like Cry of Madness , Doom Metal influences were also audible again.
