Torsten Stein (legal scholar)

Torsten Stein (born December 31, 1944 in Potsdam ) is a German legal scholar and from 1991 to 2012 held the chair for European and European public law at Saarland University and director of the Europa-Institut , Law Section of Saarland University.

Career

Torsten Stein did military service from 1964 to 1966. Today he is Colonel d. R. From 1966 to 1970 he studied law at the Ruprecht-Karls-Universität Heidelberg and the Free University of Berlin . After receiving his doctorate on "Administrative Assistance in Foreign Affairs" in 1974, he went to the Max Planck Institute for Comparative Public Law and International Law in Heidelberg as a speaker . He completed his habilitation in 1983 ("The extradition exception in political offenses: Normative limits, application in practice and attempt to reformulate") for German and foreign public law, international law and European law and was appointed professor at Heidelberg University in 1986, where he worked at the Max Planck Institute. From 1991 to 2012 he held the chair for European law and European public law at Saarland University and director of the Europa-Institut , law section.

Memberships

Stein was chairman and reporter of international committees of the International Law Association (ILA), is chairman of the German Association for International Law (German national group of the ILA) and honorary treasurer and member of the Executive Council of the ILA. He is a member of legal societies and managing director of the Association of Friends of Saarland University as well as chairman of Hermann and Dr. Charlotte Deutsch Foundation. He is also chairman of the Heidelberg Society for Foreign Public Law and International Law and was for many years a member of the board of trustees of the European Academy of Law Trier (ERA) and the academy council of the European Academy of Otzenhausen. He is a member of the Advisory Board of the Federal Academy for Security Policy .
