Torsten Toeller (born April 6, 1966 in Cologne ) is a German entrepreneur and founder of the Fressnapf company .

Life

After graduating from Norbert-Gymnasium Knechtsteden in Dormagen in 1985, he completed an apprenticeship in retail at Allkauf with subsequent studies. After a job-related trip to the USA, he developed the idea of ​​a discount specialist store for everything to do with animals in Germany. At the age of 24 he opened the first "Fressnapf" store in Erkelenz and in 1992 the first store in the franchise system . From this point on it expanded steadily. As of 2016, Fressnapf is the market leader in pet supplies with around 1,400 specialist stores in eleven European countries and sales of over € 1.8 billion.

The marriage to Alexandra Täubrich, the daughter of the owner of the Trinkgut Deutsche Getränkeeholding GmbH , led to a participation in Trinkgut. In 2007 he acquired the remaining shares in Trinkgut and thus became the sole owner. On March 9, 2010 Toeller announced the sale of beverages to Edeka . The Federal Cartel Office approved the merger on October 28, 2010 subject to certain conditions.

In 2012 Torsten Toeller founded Devario Invest GmbH, which develops and finances real estate projects. In 2014 he founded the GENUI Private Equity Fund, which provides growth capital for companies. He is a member of various supervisory and advisory boards.

Toeller lives in Duisburg-Großenbaum .
