Around 1200 students are currently attending the Norbert-Gymnasium Knechtsteden, the majority of whom are Catholic. The relationship between boys and girls is balanced, although the Norbert-Gymnasium used to be a boys-only school. The college comprises around 110 teachers. The headmaster is Johannes Gillrath, his deputy is Carsten Colberg. The lower secondary level has five courses (only the current level 9 is exceptionally six courses), one class holds an average of 30 students. The classes have different emphases: Latin, sports, science and music. The “E classes” (as well as currently class 9f) are referred to as “project class” and focus on more general projects without a thematic focus. In the upper level, the courses usually hold 13 to 28 students. In the upper secondary level, computer science, pedagogy, literature, philosophy and Spanish are offered in addition to the regular subjects. In most cases, the subjects can be taken as advanced courses (exceptions: Spanish, computer science, philosophy, literature).
activities
There are many different types of activities available in the school. These include many working groups (AGs), such as B. chess, youth research, various sports activities, film team, radio team, technical team, orchestra, choir, jazz band, rock-pop bands, school paramedics, prefects etc. The school is regularly represented at sports competitions or competitions. Every school year a so-called cross run - a 1 kilometer long endurance run - and national youth games are organized. In addition, traditionally on St. Norbert (June 6th), the school patron, held a sponsored run through the Knechtstedener Busch to Straberg and back. Shortly before the summer holidays, a social day is organized to help other people with donations made. A social internship is carried out in the 9th grade and a religious journey of reflection is organized in the same grade. School trips are also organized in grades 6 and 8, whereby the trip in grade 8 is an eight-day skiing holiday. An internship is completed in level 10 and there are numerous offers for finding a career. In level 12 there is also a final drive that takes place in one of the two advanced courses.
building
The Norbert-Gymnasium is located on the grounds of the Knechtsteden monastery of the Spiritaner Order, in the Knechtstedener Busch. The school buildings are spread over the monastery grounds, with both new school buildings and old monastery buildings being used. The new buildings include the main building, the large sports hall, the swimming pool and above that the small sports hall and the sports boarding school. The old building is divided into 6 building sections, whereby these form differently numbered blocks and can be distinguished from the outside by large numbers (4, 5, 5a, 6a, 6b, 7). Blocks 1, 2 and 3 form the floors of the main building (1st floor - block 1; ...) The "Norbert Campus" includes the Norbert library, which was opened in 2013 and was opened in the building of the old monastery printing house.
In 2016, a modern new artificial turf pitch with tartan track, a soccer field and other sports facilities as well as two beach volleyball fields were inaugurated and the physics rooms were renewed. In 2016 a music center was set up in connection with the conversion of the Libermann band into a concert hall, the inauguration of the renovated chemistry rooms and the conversion of Norbert Park into a green classroom. The “Pedagogical Center”, the auditorium of the grammar school, has professional event technology in the sound and light area due to the cultural series “Forum Knechtsteden” taking place there.
Most recently, the technology of the so-called media center was extensively renewed and a school kitchen set up for the new subject of nutritional sciences. In addition, the school should have broadband internet access in a few years .
