Tortellini
Tortellini (plural of tortellino, Italian for "small cake") are ring-shaped pasta that is filled - similar to ravioli . The traditional filling consists of a mixture of pork , Parma ham , mortadella , Parmesan cheese , eggs and nutmeg .
Tortellini are usually served in a chicken broth ( tortellini in brodo ) or, more rarely, with a cream sauce.
They probably originate from the Italian province of Bologna . Here they have been registered as a traditional Bolognese specialty with the Chamber of Crafts in Bologna since 1974 . The method of preparation tortellini in brodo (tortellini in meat broth) - which is considered a typical Sunday dish there - was also determined.
mythology
Legends say that the tortellini are modeled on the belly button of Venus , the goddess of love in Roman mythology and Aphrodite in Greek mythology .
Venus, so the legends, came to a tavern in Bologna. It is unclear whether she wanted to meet Jupiter there or whether the landlord organized a festival in her honor. According to legend, the chef caught a glimpse of her belly button through the keyhole of her room and, impressed by its beauty, created the tortellini in her honor.
