Baben is a district of the municipality of Eichstedt (Altmark) in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt .

geography

Baben is a street village in the East Altmark with some typical four-sided courtyards . The place is between the Uchte and the Elbe , about eleven kilometers north of Stendal .

Neighboring towns are Goldbeck in the north-west, Bertkow and Altenau in the north-east, Lindtorf in the south-east and Eichstedt (Altmark) in the south-west.

Subdivision breakdown

In addition to the village of Baben, the district includes the residential area Villa Baben, one kilometer northwest, and Hof am Wald, one kilometer south .

history

Settlement of the municipality can be traced back to the Germanic times. The first documentary mention of the place took place in 1215. So wrote Hermes and Weigelt in 1842: "This village is already mentioned in documents from 1215". According to the historian Peter P. Rohrlach, this refers to a witness Henricus de Beben , although there is no evidence that the place of origin of this Baben is meant, nor is there any mention of a village.

The name of the village of Baben is based on the information from 1281: in vna Curia in villa Bobene , when the Margraves Otto, Albert and Otto contributed income to the Arendsee Monastery. There was already a miller in town in 1540. It was mentioned as Baben from 1687. In 1737 there was a blacksmith and four yarn weavers in Baben. A windmill stood south of the church at the beginning of the 20th century.

In Baben there was a memorial for those who died in the First World War until the 1970s.

Agriculture

During the land reform in 1945, the following were determined: 43 properties under 100 hectares had a total of 882 hectares, a church property had 56 hectares. In 1956 the first type III agricultural production cooperative, the LPG " Thälmann-Pioniere ", was established. In 1975 this LPG was merged with LPG Type III "Glückauf" in Bertkow .

Incorporations

The municipality Baben was on 25 July 1952 by the district of Stendal in the district Osterburg reclassified. On July 1, 1994, she came to the newly established district of Stendal. Baben was an independent municipality until December 31, 2009. The councils of the municipalities of Baben (on January 27, 2009), Eichstedt (Altmark) (on February 11, 2009) and Lindtorf (on January 29, 2009) decided that their municipalities would be dissolved and become a new municipality with the Names Eichstedt (Altmark) are united. This contract was approved by the county as the lower local supervisory authority and came into effect on January 1, 2010.
