Baumgarten is a district of the municipality of Eichstedt (Altmark) in the Stendal district in Saxony-Anhalt .
geography
The Altmark Baumgarten, a clustered village with a church, is seven kilometers north of the district town of Stendal.
Neighboring places are Eichstedt (Altmark) in the northwest, Lindtorf and Rindtorf in the northeast and Jarchau in the southeast.
history
As early as 1157, a Fredericus de Bomgarden was named as a witness in advertising in a document.
The place Baumgarten was first mentioned in 1238 - together with Jarchau as Gartgouve iuxta Bungerden (that is, Jarchau near Baumgarten). Further mentions are 1383 to Bomgarde , 1426 to bomgarden and 1687 Baumgartten . Baumgarten was later a church village and a manor suitable for state assembly .
During the land reform in 1945, the Baumgarten manor was expropriated. In 1953 the first type III agricultural production cooperative, the LPG “Unity” , was established in the village .
Incorporations
On September 30, 1928, the rural community Baumgarten with the manor district Baumgarten and the manorial district Eichstedt with the rural community Eichstedt were merged to form a rural community Eichstedt in the district of Stendal .

The Protestant parish Baumgarten used to belong to the Eichstedt parish. It is now run by the parish area Arneburg the church district Stendal in Propst Sprengel Stendal Magdeburg of the Evangelical Church in Central Germany .
Culture and sights
- The Protestant village church Baumgarten, a field stone church , was built around 1250 and had a half-timbered tower in 1707, which caught fire in July 1951 due to lightning. In 1954 the tower was rebuilt in the Romanesque style.
- The local cemetery is located in the churchyard.
