Goalkeeper training

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The term goalkeeper training refers to the special training of goalkeepers in team sports such as football or handball . Professional clubs, in particular, hire special goalkeeping coaches to be more successful.

The primary goal of goalkeeping training is usually to learn and automate all goalkeeping techniques relevant to the game. At the same time, goalkeeper training is used to improve the goalkeeper's reaction , jumping power, flexibility, coordination , control of the penalty area and goalkeeping tactics . In addition, physical fitness is not neglected, as it can be essential for injuries, but also for the assertiveness of a goalkeeper.

The training of goalkeeper-specific tactics can essentially be divided into the areas of positional play, running out and building up the game. More complex tactical requirements (for example organizing the defense) can usually be worked out in team training. Goalkeeper training can also take place with training aids such as hurdles, hoops, bars, etc.

A professional goalkeeping coach usually makes sure that the exercises are carried out correctly. He also provides assistance and, if necessary, technical corrections. At the same time, he tries to dose the use of the respective exercises sensibly, since factors such as sequence, intensity , number of repetitions in the individual exercises can play an important role in success. However, goalkeeper coaches are rarely found in lower-class clubs (often for financial reasons), which makes special goalkeeper training hardly possible. Such training units are often limited to shooting training or a pure sequence of individual exercises.
