Frans Hoek (born October 17, 1956 in Alkmaar ) is a Dutch football goalkeeping coach and former goalkeeper .

Career

As an active footballer, Hoek stood between the posts at FC Volendam from 1973 . Here he first played in the Eerste Divisie and from 1977 completed 89 games in the Eredivisie . He scored the opening goal for his team on September 25, 1983 in a 1-1 draw in the match against Roda JC - his only goal in the top Dutch division.

His career as a goalkeeper coach began in 1985 at Ajax Amsterdam . There he trained Edwin van der Sar among others . In 1999 he followed head coach Louis van Gaal to FC Barcelona . After van Gaal became national coach of the Netherlands and Hoek had also left FC Barcelona in the course of this, both were hired again in 2002. In the following season Víctor Valdés was a regular goalkeeper. In 2006 he became the goalkeeping coach of the Polish national team . He held this position until 2009. When Louis van Gaal became coach at Bayern Munich in 2010 , Hoek was later hired. A year later he was released from his duties. He then became the goalkeeping coach of the Dutch national team. For the 2014/15 season he joins Manchester United with Louis van Gaal . Hoek became the goalkeeping coach of Galatasaray Istanbul in August 2016 .

Hoek has been a lecturer at the KNVB Academy since 2008 , as well as a lecturer at FIFA and a member of the UEFA Panel of Instructors .

Hoek is considered a "goalkeeping coach luminary". With his primacy as a goalkeeper, he was instrumental in establishing a new type of goalkeeper on the one hand, but on the other hand, because of his requirements in this regard, is also the reason for the problems that players like Robert Enke in Barcelona and Thomas Kraft had at Bayern.
