Toshokan Senso

Toshokan Sensō ( Japanese 図 書館 戦 争 , eng. "Library War ") is a light novel series by the Japanese author Hiro Arikawa , illustrated by Sukumo Adabana . The work from 2006 and 2007 was adapted as an anime and manga .

In 1989 the Japanese government enacted a law providing censorship to protect the population from harmful media. A committee is established to monitor the law. However, some local governments are resisting the decision and forming a force to protect library content from being censored by members of the government committee.

In 2019, the young Iku Kasahara ( 笠原 郁 ) joins the Kanto Library Defense Unit . After her training, she becomes part of the task force that protects the library's books and collects more.

publication

The light novel was published by Media Works from February 2006 to November 2007 . The chapters appeared in four volumes. A spin-off called Bessatsu Toshokan Sensō ( 別 冊 図 書館 戦 争 ) was released in April 2008, and a second followed in August 2008.

Adaptations

Manga

An adaptation of the light novel as a manga has been published under the title Toshokan Sensō: Love & War ( 図 書館 戦 争 LOVE & WAR) since September 2007 in the magazine LaLa of the Hakusensha publishing house . The graphic implementation is done by Kiiro Yumi. The individual chapters have also appeared in two anthologies so far .

A second manga appears as Toshokan Sensō: Spitfire! ( 図 書館 戦 争 SPITFIRE!) In Comic Dengeki Daioh magazine at MediaWorks. The draftsman is Yayoi Furudori. The manga also appeared in an anthology so far.

In 2008, Studio Production IG produced an anime television series directed by Takayuki Hamana based on the second manga. The character design was created by Satoru Nakamura and the artistic director was Shigemi Ikeda. The series was broadcast from April 10 to June 26, 2008 by the Japanese broadcaster Fuji TV . It was later repeated by Hokkaido Cultural Broadcasting, Kansai TV, Niigata Sogo Television, Television Nishi-Nippon Corporation and Tokai TV. It was also released on 5 DVDs from August 6 to December 3, 2008. The 3rd DVD contains the episode Koi no Shogai , which was not broadcast on television.

The music for the series was composed by Yūgo Kanno. The opening credits are Atashi no Machi, Ashita no Machi ( あ た し の 街 、 明日 の 街 ) by Hitomi Takahashi, for the credits one used changes by Base Ball Bear.

The first volume of the light novel was the seventh best-selling light novel in Japan in 2008 with over 62,000 copies sold.

The series of novels won the 2008 Seiun Prize in the Best Japanese Novel category.
