Touch Dance is a remix album by the British pop duo Eurythmics . Despite the band's intervention, it was released in May 1984 as part of a low-price promotion by RCA Records .

backgrounds

After the success of the previous album Touch , RCA Records decided to release four tracks from the album as a remix as part of a low-price promotion. The basis was the tracks recorded during the sessions for Touch , remixed by the French DJ François Kevorkian and the American John “Jellybean” Benitez. Initially taken with the idea, Annie Lennox and Dave Stewart took part in the final mix in New York . They also ensured that the album was not offered at full price. After the Eurythmics heard the final version, they were very dissatisfied with the result and called touch dance “predictable and uninspired”. Stewart stated that the publication was not made with the consent of the Eurythmics. From May 1984, Touch Dance was offered through the retail chain Woolworth at a price of £ 2.99 .

music

Were used The First Cut , Cool Blue and Paint a Rumor each in a version with vocals on the A-side and a instrumental version on the B-side of the LP . Regrets is represented as the fourth song on the A-side . The versions of The First Cut and Cool Blue did not differ audibly from the album versions, in Paint a Rumor the vocals were provided with rhythm effects. The most noticeable change came from Regrets , whose tempo was reduced to a melancholy level, which, however, affects Annie Lennox's vocals. The instrumental version of The First Cut audibly suffers from the lack of vocals, while the last two remixes Cool Blue and Paint a Rumor work best of all the titles represented.

Track list

  1. The First Cut - 6:34
  2. Cool Blue - 5:58
  3. Paint a Rumor - 7:26
  4. Regrets - 7:34
  5. The First Cut (instrumental) - 7:14
  6. Cool Blue (Instrumental) - 6:54
  7. Paint a Rumor (Instrumental) - 5:53

reception

William Ruhlmann from Allmusic writes that the album is only interesting for DJs or for listeners who are interested in how different the same song can sound. For the average buyer, however , Touch Dance is of no interest because the remixes are not really better than the original versions.
