Tourais is a locality and former municipality in Portugal .

history

Finds prove a settlement by Romans . The current place was probably repopulated in the course of the new settlements in connection with the medieval Reconquista . In the royal surveys of 1258 Tourais is already listed as an independent municipality. It was the seat of an independent circle until the administrative reforms after the Liberal Revolution in 1822 and the Miguelistenkrieg that followed in 1834 . As a result, the Tourais district was dissolved in the middle of the 19th century and Seia was incorporated.

With the territorial reform of 2013, Tourais was merged with Lajes to form a new municipality.
