The light rail Toyama and Toyama Light Rail ( Jap. 富山ライトレール , Toyama Raito reru ) is the rail network in the north of Toyama on the island of Honshu in Japan , which is operated by the identical private company.
Operation began in 2006 on a railway line that had previously belonged to JR West , by closing the southernmost section of the line in favor of a newly built tram line and switching the voltage back from 1500 V to 600 V. Since then, the Toyamakō line ( 富山 港 線 , Toyamakō-sen , German "Toyama-Hafen-Linie") has been served by seven two-part low-floor articulated railcars from the main train station on a largely single-track route north to Iwasehama ( 岩 瀬 浜 ), which correspond to the vehicles that were later used on the Toyama tram .
A connection to the tram that has already been integrated into the station building is planned for the coming years.
