TrackMania Turbo (usually abbreviated to TM Turbo or TMT for short ) is a racing game that is developed by the French game studio Nadeo and distributed by the publisher Ubisoft . Introduced at E3 2015, this part is one of the TrackMania titles that are also being developed for consoles, the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, since the TrackMania Wii , which was released in 2009 . The game offers, among other things, virtual reality support. The first release date was November 3, 2015, but was postponed to March 24, 2016 (worldwide) by Nadeo due to the time required to fine-tune the game. The game is deliberately less rich in options than its predecessor TrackMania 2 with the idea of a simple, uncomplicated arcade game . It is based on ManiaPlanet 3.1.

Gameplay

As usual, the gameplay of TrackMania Turbo is based heavily on the previous titles in the series. The player can put his skills to the test on 200 different routes in four different environments. These are called " Rollercoaster Lagoon ", " International Stadium ", " Canyon Grand Drift " and " Valley Down & Dirty ". Like its predecessors, this game places a high value on crazy tracks and wacky stunts. The publisher Ubisoft said: "They wanted to make TrackMania: Turbo an arcade game."

Environments

The TrackMania Turbo environments are based on the environments of the previous titles in TrackMania 2 :

Canyon Grand Drift

This environment is known from the title TrackMania² Canyon and only includes improved driving physics and new route components. Here you drive a racing car through American canyons and drive on racetracks, narrow country roads or jump over huge chasms.

Valley Down & Dirty

This environment was also taken from an already published TrackMania title, namely TrackMania² Valley . In this environment you drive a rally buggy through French forests, fields and valleys. You can find your destination via normal roads, tunnels and dirt roads.

International Stadium

The most famous environment, “Stadium”, can also be found in the latest TrackMania part and is also a reinterpretation of one of the previous TrackMania games, TrackMania² Stadium . Here you operate a Formula 1-like racing car through a stadium and drive on normal racetracks, through dirt sections or with daring jumps over moats.

Rollercoaster Lagoon

This environment is the only environment in the game that did not originate from a previous TrackMania title, but still has ambitions due to the rough appearance of the “Island” environment from the TrackMania Sunrise game . Here the player drives a beach buggy on South Asian islands and overcomes stretches of beach, normal stone paths and the magnetic routes where the car is pulled along the track. The car is relatively fast and has both incredible grip and extremely strong handling, which is why this environment challenges the player's skill.

Game modes

The game offers many different game modes, including a single player campaign and a multiplayer mode called "Double Driver", which is a cooperative mode where two players have to drive the same car in a race, with skill and team play being the main focus. TrackMania: Turbo also includes a split screen mode for up to four players at the same time, which makes the game one of the most comprehensive racing games for the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One consoles . There is also an online multiplayer mode again, where up to 100 players can put their skills to the test on one server.

Level / route editor

Also Trackmania Turbo contains the characteristic of the series track editor . Players can create their own courses and share them with other players. For the first time, TMT offers the option of randomly generating routes.

particularities

A special feature of the game is the “systematic music” that adapts to the speed and driving behavior of the player. If you drive fast or slow, through tunnels or in the air, or drive through checkpoints and multilaps, the music adapts to the game with different loops. In addition, at the start (if activated) the countdown is output in six languages: German, English, French, Spanish, Russian and Japanese. Every radio message in the middle of the race is only played back in English.
