Research history

A Brazilian male was first described as Libellula binotata by Rambur in 1842. The holotype is now in the Serville's Collection . In 1867 Brauer described three more specimens that come from Brazil and are now in the Natural History Museum in Vienna . He described a male as Tramea subbinotata . In the case of the other two, he gave no gender and described them as Tramea longicauda and Tramea brasiliana . Another description - again on a Brazilian male - as Tramea paulina was made in 1910 by Förster . Ris then recognized the equality of the species in his own description in 1913. In 1943 Whitehouse described another male from Jamaica as Tramea walkeri . The copy is now in the Whitehouse's Collection .
