Transatlantyk even Transatlantyk Poznań International Film and Music Festival called, is an international film and music festival , the first time in August 2011 in the Polish city of Poznan ( Polish Poznań ) was organized. At a closing gala at the festival, various awards will be presented, including the Transatlantyk Glocal Hero Award and the Paderewski Award for Outstanding Artists, the Chopin Award for Discovery of the Year, and the Young Composer Awards and Instant Composer of the Year awarded to film composers.

The founder and director of the festival is the Polish composer and Oscar winner Jan AP Kaczmarek .

Film festival

The main venue of the festival is the multiplex cinema in the center of Poznan, Poland's first multiplex cinema. The films are assigned to different sections, including the “Transatlantyk Panorama”, in which US films are presented that have either already been awarded prizes or are premiering at the festival. Other sections focus on Germany (“10 German Voices”), Scandinavia (“New Scandinavian Cinema”), North Africa (“Arab Revolutions Before and Now”) or culinary cinema (“Culinary Cinema”) based on the Berlinale . Under the heading “B Movies: Passion and Nausea”, low-budget films from Hollywood productions of the 1950s are shown. Documentaries are divided into four different thematic blocks: social engagement ("Transatlantyk Docs"), ecology ("Transatlantyk Eco"), music, concert recordings and art events ("Transatlantyk Art") and the "Transatlantyk Spotlight" section, which is dedicated to certain regions.

Music festival

The spectrum of the music festival ranges from symphony concerts to performances of electronic dance music . In addition, two international competitions will be held: one for film music ("Transatlantyk Film Music Competition"), with a prize of USD 20,000, and one for piano compositions in front of a live audience ("Transatlantyk Instant Composition Contest"), which will be awarded USD 10,000.

First edition 2011

In the first edition, around 36,000 tickets were sold for around 300 screenings and performances. The Transatlantyk Glocal Hero Award went to Elżbieta and Krzysztof Penderecki . Of the 171 films shown, 40 were premiered in Poland. The cost of the nine-day event was around 5.5 million zloty . 2160 people took part in workshops and seminars.

The Transatlantyk Audience Award went to the American love film For Lovers Only by Marc and Michael Polish . The title “Transatlantyk Young Composer” of 2011 was awarded to the 26-year-old television composer Matthis Kleboom from the Netherlands. The Polish violist Agata Szymczewska won the Chopin Award with PLN 20,000 as a prize, while the 30-year-old Polish composer Dawid Rudnicki won the Transatlantyk Instant Composition Contest.

Second edition 2012

In the second edition in 2012 around 41,000 tickets were sold. Internet users selected the documentary The House I Live In by Eugene Jarecki as the best film of the festival . For the main prize, the best film music (Transatlantyk Film Music Competition), the Swedish film composer Daniel Bejbom was awarded USD 20,000 .
