Trappist monastery Kokoubou

The Trappist monastery Kokoubou (Latin: Monasterium Beatae Mariae de Kokoubou ; French: Monastère Cistercien N.-D. de Kokoubou ) has been a Benin monastery near Parakou , Department Borgou , Archdiocese of Parakou since 1972 .

history

The French monastery Bellefontaine founded in 1972 the monastery Notre-Dame de Kokoubou ("Our Lady of Kokoubou") 26 kilometers west of Parakou and 36 kilometers away from the Trappist Abbey Étoile Notre-Dame, founded in 1960 . The monastery was made a priory in 1985 . In the same year, Bishop Nestor Assogba inaugurated the monastery church. Present were: Abbot General Ambrose Southey , Abbot Emmanuel Coutant (1924–2008) of Bellefontaine, and the Bishop of Kikwit , Edouard Mununu Kasiala (* 1936).
