The Trathan Coast is a stretch of coast north of Smyley Island off the English coast of West Antarctic Ellsworthland . It extends from Scoresby Head in the west to Cape Marchesi in the east at the entrance to the Ronne Entrance . It is characterized by high ice cliffs. In the northwest section there is a large colony of emperor penguins .
The UK Antarctic Place-Names Committee named it in 2010 after Philip N. Trathan, ecosystem researcher from the British Antarctic Survey since 1990.
