Trawniki [ travˈniki ] is a village in the Świdnicki powiat of the Lublin Voivodeship in Poland . It is the seat of the rural community of the same name .

geography

Trawniki is located about 32 km southeast of Lublin in the Dorohucza lowland on the Wieprz river and the confluence with the Gielczew .

history

The first mention of the place comes from the year 1437. In the fifteenth century the place had different names, u. a. Trawnik (1437), Trawniky (1447–1496), Strawnyk (1451) and Sztrawnyk (1468). In 1437 Trawniki was already a well developed place, so it is assumed that the place existed since the middle of the fourteenth century and belonged to the parish of Czemierniki in the diocese of Krakow . Over the centuries, the place changed hands several times. In 1889 a sugar factory was built in the village, and in 1932 the conversion to a textile factory began; this was almost completed in 1939. Their owners fled when the war broke out. The Trawniki forced labor camp was established on the site in 1941 . In October 1943 the forced labor camp was dissolved and the approximately 6,000 inmates shot.

From 1954 to 1972 the place was the seat of the Gromada Trawniki . In 1954, a large granary was put into operation. In the 1960s the castle was demolished.

From 1975 to 1998 Trawniki was part of the Lublin Voivodeship .
