Eufemia (Teschen)
Eufemia (also Ofka ; * around 1395/1398; † before September 17, 1447 ) was Princess of Mazovia and Duchess of Teschen , over whom she ruled from 1431 to 1442.
Life
Eufemia was the daughter of Duke Ziemowit IV of Mazovia and Alexandra of Lithuania († 1434), a sister of the Polish king Władysław II Jagiełło . In 1412 she married the widowed Duke Boleslaus I of Teschen. Their sons came from the marriage
- Wenzel I († 1474), ∞ with Elisabeth of Brandenburg
- Wladislaus († 1460), ∞ with Margareta von Cilli
- Przemislaus II. († 1477), ∞ with Anna of Mazovia
- Boleslaus II. († 1474), ∞ with Anna Bielska († 1448), daughter of the Moscow voivode Fyodor Bielski
as well as the daughter
- Alexandra († 1463), ∞ with the palatine László II Garai († 1459)
After the death of Duke Boleslaus I, the four sons inherited his property. Since they were not yet of legal age, Eufemia took over the guardianship of them and until 1442 the reign of the duchy. Together with her sons, she granted the city of Teschen the right to mint coins in 1438 . It was not until 1442 that the inheritance was divided. Due to the resulting small domains, Boleslaus sons lost their political importance. In addition, there was already a loss of territory a year after the division of the estate, as Eufemia's eldest son Wenceslaus I sold the Duchy of Severien in 1443 to the Krakow Bishop Zbigniew Oleśnicki .
Presumably Eufemia was buried next to her husband in the Dominican monastery church in Teschen.
