Boleslaus II (Teschen)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Boleslaus II of Teschen (also Boleslaw II , Bolko II ; * around 1425 - † October 8, 1452 ) was Duke of Teschen from 1431 until his death in 1452 . He came from the Silesian Piast family .

Life

Boleslaus parents were the eponymous Duke Boleslaus I of Teschen and Eufemia of Mazovia . On January 28, 1448 he married Anna Bielska († 1490), daughter of the Moscow voivod Fyodor Bielski. Children came from marriage

After the death of his father Boleslaus I in 1431, Boleslaus II inherited his property together with his brothers Wenceslaus I , Wladislaus and Primislaus II . Since they were not yet of legal age, they were initially under the tutelage of their mother, who also ruled the duchy until 1442. After the division that took place that year, Boleslaus II received part of the Duchy of Teschen, which, however, was in fact ruled by his older brother Primislaus II.

In contrast to his brother Wladislaus, who allied himself with Bohemia , Boleslaus II maintained good relations with the Polish throne. In order to obtain an independent domain, he exchanged part of his territory for part of Bytom in 1452 . He could no longer take up the government there because he died shortly afterwards. The lineage of the Teschen dukes was continued after the death of Boleslaus brothers Wladislaus († 1460), Wenceslaus († 1474) and Primislaus II († 1477) and by Boleslaus II's only son Casimir II.
