Johann V. (Teschen-Zator)
Johann V. von Zator (also Johann / V. Von Zator-Teschen , Hanuš von Zator ; according to other counting sometimes also Johann IV. Von Zator ; * around 1455 , † September 17, 1513 ) was duke from 1468 until his death in 1513 by Zator , which he sold to the Polish King Johann Albrecht in 1494 .
Life
Johann V came from the Teschen branch of the Silesian Piasts . His parents were Wenceslas I and his wife Maria Kopczowska († after 1468), who came from Sewerien . Between 1475 and 1477 he married Barbara, a daughter of Duke Boleslaus II of Teschen , who previously married Duke Balthasar von Sagan . had been married. The marriage remained childless.
After the death of their father in 1465, Johann V and his older brothers Casimir II , Wenceslaus II and the younger brother Wladislaus inherited the Duchy of Zator, which they initially administered together. In 1474 they divided it into two parts, the border of which was the Skawa . The older two brothers received the eastern part, while the younger brothers Johann V and Wladislaus were assigned the western part. The town of Zator , which lies off the Skawa, and the castle there were also divided.
Since the two older brothers Casimir and Wenzel were no longer alive, Johann V was able to unite all territorial shares of the Duchy of Zator in his hand after the death of the youngest brother Wladislaus in 1494. On 29 July 1494 he sold it to the Polish King John Albert , who gave him a lifetime in return usufruct conceded. He was allowed to carry his title of duke until the end of his life. With his death in 1513 his duchy of Silesia or the Crown of Bohemia was dissolved and incorporated into the Crown of Poland .
With the death of Johann V, the legitimate Zator line of Teschen became extinct . Johann's illegitimate son of the same name, who is sometimes called Johann / Hanuš VI. (and according to other counts as Johann / Hanuš V. ), survived him by seven years.
