At the end of the 19th century, the place had around 400 inhabitants; in the census of the 1920s to 1940s there were more than 500. The mechanization of agriculture led to a significant population decline in the second half of the 20th century.

Economy and Infrastructure

The soils and the rainy, but mild climate have always been well suited for livestock and cheese production; until the middle of the 20th century, the residents lived largely on a self-sufficient basis. Thereafter, tourism developed into a not insignificant economic factor in the form of renting holiday apartments ( casas rurales ), which was revived again in 1995 with the creation of the Picos de Europa National Park .

history

Nothing is known about the early history of the place, because neither the Celts and Romans, nor Visigoths and Moors left any traces on the municipality. The first mention of the place name can be found in a deed of sale from the year 942. It can be assumed that the area was first explored by hunters and shepherds and only became more populated in the high or late Middle Ages.

Attractions

  • Apart from the scenic attractions of the area, which invite you to various hikes, Tresviso has hardly any sights.
  • The parish church of San Andrés is a building from the beginning of the 20th century (1904), which was built over the demolished Ermita San Pedro from the 18th century. The building, which looks a bit oversized today, had its justification at the beginning of the 20th century.
