In Germany the song reached number 39 in the singles charts. Artur Schulz from laut.de describes the song as "crude nonsense" and felt that it "irritated" him in 1982, but the 2007 version works "extremely well with his ruthless squint at the glimmering disco ball". The music journalist Ruben Jonas Schnell from the Internet radio station ByteFM praised the song and the album and described it as "musically groundbreaking". The album is a “hand-made preliminary stage of techno with machine beats” and praised the “remarkable consistency” of the lyrics. The album is still “crazy” today and “as exciting as 30 years ago”.
