Trichocephalus stipularis is a kind from the family of the cross thorn plants (Rhamnaceae) and the only member of the genus Trichocephalus . It is native to southern Africa.

Trichocephalus stipularis are evergreen dwarf shrubs . Their leaves are alternate to each other and are provided with stipules .
The bisexual flowers are in narrow, heady thyrses and have extremely hairy bracts . The over the ovary protruding flower cups is cylindrical and the hairy discus grown. Unlike many genera of the family , petals are present. The ovary is hairy, subordinate and triple. The fruits are explosion fruits, the seeds arillate .
Distribution and systematics
Trichocephalus stipularis occurs in southern Africa. The species was first described in 1771 by Carl von Linné under the name Phylica stipularis (In: Mantissa Plantarum ). In 1828 Adolphe Théodore Brongniart placed them in his new genus Trichocephalus . Within the buckthorn family , Trichocephalus stipularis is classified in the tribe Rhamneae , but counted by other authors to the tribe Phyliceae .
